Gerald O'Loughlin in Lovers and Lollipops (1956)

What a delightful film! Through its documentary style film making (yet, not without moments of beautifully framed imagery) it brings a sense of honesty and realism to a story told from a child's perspective. New York City of the 50s seems just like a large amusement park, the viewer (such as myself) is completely immersed in this era of the past. (Such as Macy's Department Store, the old MoMA, and Central Park.) The simplistic plot is filled with extended moments of tenderness and seemingly real emotions.
Mr. O'Loughlin might not be handsome by any standard, but his boyish charm, in combination with his character's patient demeanor towards the child, is more charming than ten hot guys combined. I sure want a daddy like him!
