Sam Elliott in The Legacy (1978)
This was actually capped quite recently by someone over at Dreamcaps, (sorry I can't recall the contributor.) but for a big horror film fan like me, the premise sounds interesting enough, plus if it offers another chance to catch Mr. Elliott in action, why not? So off I rent.
And I am so glad now it was just a rental, because other than Sam Elliot, the film itself is pretty horrible. You won't notice it right away though, as it is actually well shot, featuring intriguingly detailed sets (I want a tour of that house!), and a group of interesting characters. However once the end credit rolls, looking back at the narrative, one would find there's no logic, no motivation, and the overall story arc is just one flat note. (A bit of a spoiler: this is also the first movie I've seen, where inheriting Satan's power, one which will eventually end the life of your love one, is being portrayed as a "happy ending.")
