Tony Lo Bianco in The Honeymoon Killers (1969)

Tony Lo Bianco in The Honeymoon Killers (1969)

What a beautifully constructed film! The acting is spot on, the characters are well developed and the story is shocking and tragically beautifully.

Inspired by a real case happened in the 40s (You can read more about the murders here.) The film deals with the relationship between a con man and a unattractive, mentally unstable nurse. The film is all about the gray matter; the characters are murder and thief, yet we see their fragility, their tenderness, and their love. At the same time, being a film about serial killers, there are moments of grotesque and cruelty, and these scenes are not less shocking even by today's standard.

Covering such a wide range of genre, it is very easy for a film to lose its identity, yet this one manages to always keep its head above the water, and smoothly maneuvers its audience through the up and downs.

Tony Lo Bianco is perfectly cast as the con man, who would not fall on their knees at the presence of this beautiful man?
