Tony Lo Bianco in God Told Me To (1976)
Tony Lo Bianco was the main reason I gave this movie a try, but boy did I get more than what I expected. This is one intriguing film; it started out as an urban thriller (the opening shooting scene is masterfully done- so simply handled but completely tense and horrific.) then sci-fi elements start to creep in half way through. By the last block the film is on a completely different tangent from its starting point, it becomes religion heavy, psychological, weird and bizarre.
I mean it as a compliment though; the film is so confident and serious about its direction, you as the viewer can't help but be taken along for the ride. I can see this as a love it or hate it type of film; personally I applaud the director for having the gut combining these seemingly unrelated elements into a coherent and enjoyable cinema experience.
Tony is still lovable and cute here, but I was even more impressed with his acting- what a range!
