Douglas Fairbanks in The Thief of Bagdad (1924)

It sure looks like I am challenging the history of cinema, seeing how far back I can discover hunks that are worth posting, and this one is probably a record I won't break anytime soon. I hope you will enjoy this 80+ years old hunk from the past!
Go further back. Google Sandow. Not a Hollywood hunk but a turn of the century hunk who was filmed, if that counts.
ReplyDeleteJust googled him, that was an amazing find! Thanks for the comment.
ReplyDeleteEugen Sandow was quite a specimen. I never realized men were built that way back then. Since you're doing some excavating, I'd love to see a post on Francis X. Bushman or Ramon Novarro.
ReplyDeleteIf you have patience, you can find some great shots of Al St. John's very, very fine physique in some of the Buster Keaton/ Fatty Arbuckle movies. Buster wasn't exactly chopped liver, himself. Also, In some very early Italian efforts, starting with Cabiria in 1914, there was a musclemanm character called Maciste played by Bartolomeo Pagano. Very big and strong.Lastly, there's a film from 1897 by Alice Guy of some athletic young men entitled "Bathing in a Stream".
