James MacArthur in Spencer's Mountain (1963)
I have to confess this film is a bit lost to me; while there are glowing reviews claiming it to be a "perfect family film," I myself found it slow moving, and slightly difficult to digest. Maybe for people of my generation, the ties to the lifestyle and values portrayed in the film is so far removed, that everything is read as unrealistic and overly simplistic. Maybe the simpler time does exist once, but it is no longer applicable?
Anyway, the focus of the post is not on values of our life, but Mr. MacArthur. Made a few Swiss Family Robinson , still boyishly charming, he looks as if he just went from one film straight to another!
Soon after this he began to work mainly in television productions, wonder where can I find his next shirtless scene? (Does he ever go shirtless in Hawaii Five-O?)
